A VISIT TO BANGLADESH BY MR. S. M. ANAS, LIFE SECRETARY OLD BOYS’ ASSOCIATION
8th August 2001 landed at Dhaka Airport. Muslehuddin (109-A) and Gp. Capt. (Retd) Alfaz (367-F) received me. The main center of activities was at Mohiyuddin’s (221-A) office. He is now the Managing Director, University Press Dhaka. Mamun Rashid (274-A) G. D. Rehman (404-S) visit Mohiyuddin’s office every day. They got together and worked hard to organize a big dinner at the BAF Mess. It was attended by 80 persons. It was a wonderful evening. The warmth of the Sargodhians could be felt. The wives and few children were also present.
Election of Dhaka Chapter was held during our first dinner at Gulshan Club. Mamunur Rashid (274-A) was elected as Vice President and Gp. Capt. Alfaz (Retd) was elected Secretary of Dhaka Chapter. G. D. Rehman and Mohiyuddin as usual would do all the work but not ready to take up any assignment. Mohiyuddin (221-A) took initiative and asked each Sargodhian and his wife to give a short introduction. Mohiyuddin’s speech was in Urdu and every one appreciated while my speech was in Bangla mixed with English.
Gp. Capt. Alfaz has pledged to pay Rs. 50,000/- to SST Public School, Project.
Late Capt. Murad’s (151-S) wife Mun Mun, a famous English News caster invited me to attend Murad’s daughter’s marriage. It was a great occasion for me to meet my old friends daughter plus a large number of Sargodhians who were present. An opportunity for me to meet many old friends.
The Sargodhians have also formed a foundation known as Al-Maun Foundation. They have Sargodhians and many top businessmen have also joined them. Sargodhians from overseas can also become the member. Forwarding photocopy of their concept paper for information, which is follows:-

The Sargodhians in Bangladesh have formed a non-profit, private, charitable Trust titled
“The Al-Maun Foundation”. It was registered under the Societies Act, 1860 in 1986. Subsequently this Foundation was granted Tax-Exempt status under the Income Tax Act, 1982. The title for this Foundation is taken from the “Sura Maun” which means “Small Kindness”.
The Foundation’s Charter permits it to undertake a variety of activities. The first of these was to develop a boarding school for boys in line with what they experienced in P.A.F. School in Sargodha. For various reasons the progress made towards fulfilling this objective has been slow although the first of four installments of about Tk. 2.5 lacs each was deposited with the Government authorities for over 100 acres of land in 1995. One of the reasons being that the source of funds is uncertain and inadequate. However the Foundation has setup a separate fund for assisting those Sargodhians who have suffered for catastrophic accidents or illness and has provided necessary supplementary financial help to friends in need.
The Foundation is composed of both those who studied in Sargodha and eminent Non-Sargodhian personalities. The mix is deliberately designed to allow others to interact and participate with Sargodhians in programs, which are socially and economically desirable. Further as the number of Sargodhians in Bangladesh, in the current context, is inevitably going to decline, the need to incorporate and associate with the Lower Topa students (Topians) under one umbrella becomes imperative in order to maintain a sufficiently large pool of like-minded members. To this end we are actually considering suitable amendments to the Foundation’s Charter. The mixed membership which includes non-Sargodhians is designed to permit others to experience what we the Sargodhians take for granted – the Sargodhian Spirit.
The Foundation and its members would like to associate with similar organizations in Pakistan and other countries in order to further its objectives.
Mamunur Rashid
Chairman
