  • We are shocked to hear the sad demise of the death of Basit Haqqani (110-S). An eminent scholar, served as ambassador of Pakistan to Poland and Srilanka. Recently retired as Additional Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs and went with his wife to join his eldest son in New Jersey USA with a desire to establish himself as one of the top journalists. His book “Pappio” has been popular among writers, scholars and Foreign Embassies in Pakistan.

Owing to the heart ailment, he survived one surgery but the second surgery created some complications and on 7th January 2004 he expired leaving behind his wife and two sons, one in New Jersey and the second son studying in Switzerland who could not manage to go because the US Embassy did not give him visa.

However, we need to pray for his soul may rest in peace and May Allah give strength to his wife, two children and close friends to bear this great loss. Amin!. Please note his son’s phone no if you need to send your condolence.

  • Golden Jubilee Celebration of PAF Public School Sargodha on 10th, 11th & 12th October 2003

The Golden Jubilee Celebration of PAF Public School Sargodha was held on 10th, 11th, 12th October 2003 at the School premises.

    Dear Sargodhian family,

    Assalaam O Alaikum,

I am back from where you sent me; with about 2500 photos. I covered the whole School and nearly all entry groups available from each house. I also have complete coverage of the Golden Jubilee celebration.

For those who missed it, this was once in a life time celebration. It was such a fantastic program… It will remain in memories for years to come. This event was to be celebrated with families and not alone.

There were 1800 Alumni Sargodhians, with their families. The biggest contingent was from Bangladesh. About 60 Sargodhians and 38 families attended the ceremony. The reception and welcome given to the old Sargodhians was excellent. It was like no foreign dignitary ever received. They were requested to come to the stage and sing Bengali songs and they did. The Sargodhians danced to their tunes.

The 8 houses gave 2 dorms for the families and for those who came alone; the Officers Army and Air force messes were booked. The Circuit House and two hotels were also booked to accommodate the visitors.

But the most interesting was the welcome and love shared by the future cream of the nation. They didn’t mind sleeping on the floor to accommodate their Bhai Janns. We came in to their domains and disrupting their daily lives but they were great! They were great to welcome and they enjoyed every moment with us; asking questions about bunking, getting caught and extra drills and so on. They even made two scripts on me in their dramas, which were excellent.

Then there was a stage show by Ibrar-ul-Haq and Farah, who didn’t charge anything. The show continued till 3:00 AM. You will be able to see this show and the whole coverage of the Golden Jubilee on 3 CDs, which were transferred from the video. I have the CDs with me.

I have made 2004 Calendars, with 50 years of history. They are also available with me. You can contact me to get them.

Comments and photos by Sargodhians for Golden Jubilee...

I would like to congratulate the management committee of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sargodhians. It was wonderful arrangement. I really felt at home and among the family. Everybody was behaving like family members; cherishing the memories of old days spent there. It made me feel very sentimental. I wish I could always be there as student and run around on green fields and cherish around.

I am grateful to all Sargodhians who made this event memorable and homely felt. I hope this would not stop in future.

Our beloved brothers, cream of the nation and future leaders of the country,

Assalaam O Alaikum, I on behalf of Alumni Sargodhians, want to thank you all for the kind hospitality you gave us, despite our entrance into your domain and disruption of your daily life routines. I wish I had words to thank you all for love and care you gave, the cute smiles on your faces and embracing us from the core of your hearts; especially the welcome you gave to our Bangladeshi brothers. Only Allah can give you “ajar” for this. May Allah give you great success in every endeavor of your life. Ameen!

    Muhammad Abdul Qadir Sargaana

    Dear Sir,

I can not thank you enough (In fact I must thank you and all your staff very much) for a tremendous reception and your generous hospitality on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee. The whole event was extremely well organized, the performances by the boys were wonderful it must have taken a great deal of effort to spare the time from their normal studies and other extra curricular activities. I particularly appreciated the efforts of those who looked after us and made it an extra pleasure to be able to meet old friends after so many years. A very special thank you to the boys, they were tremendous, they couldn't have done any more to look after us than they did. Another special thank you to Flt. Lt. Arif Mubin Who very kindly looked after my group who were staying in a hotel in the town. He went out of his way to ensure that we were made as comfortable and as welcome as possible, we felt quite at home at the school.

It was a marvelous weekend and one which I will long remember - it will be among my most treasured memories. Once again, many thanks to all concerned.

    Best Wishes to all.

Air chief marshal Mushaf Ali and 16 others dead in plane crash: ISLAMABAD, Feb 20: Air chief marshal Mushaf Ali and 17 others were killed when a military plane crashed in Kohat, military spokesman Brigadier Saulat Raza told AFP. He said "There were no survivors." The plane crashed in bad weather, some 70 kilometers from Kohat. A highly placed source, who did not want to be identified, said among those on board with Mir were his wife and two other air marshals. "A high-level board of inquiry has been constituted to determine the cause of the crash," an official press release said. President General Pervez Musharraf has expressed "shock and grief over the loss of precious lives". Mir was flying from the capital Islamabad for the annual inspection of the Kohat air base, according to the Air Force press release. The bodies of his Mir's wife, Bilquees, and two Air Vice Marshals have been identified. While the plane's wreckage was located, other military authorities were not willing to discuss casualty figures. State television PTV reported that the F-27 twin turboprop craft crashed "for technical reasons" shortly after taking off from the Chaklala air force base near Islamabad at 8:35 am (0535 GMT). "Seventeen minutes after takeoff the plane lost contact with air traffic control," PTV said. A press briefing is scheduled for today afternoon. The vice chief of the Pakistan Air Force Syed Qaiser Hussain has been appointed acting chief of the air force, according to news agency reports. (AFP/Reuters/DPA) (Updated @ 15:55 PST)

  • Quran Khawani in Nashville by Asif Chaudhry (1040-Munir)

A special prayer was arranged by Asif Chaudhry for the shuhada of Kohat crash on Sat. 22nd Feb. There are 3 Sargodhians living in Nashville, Asif Chaudhry - 66th GD (P), Talat Bashir - 66th GD(P) and Zia Wahid - 68th GD(P). Quran Khawani was attended by lots of people and a moment of silence was observed during one of their get together also.

I was in Pakistan only a month back and my coursemates had arranged a get together in Islamabad which was attended by A/cdr Marwat , A/cdr Mujaddid, A/cdr Sarfraz, A/cdr Bukhari , A/cdr Najam, A/cdr Ayaz , Dr. Fazal ur Rehman, Khalid Khan and A/cdr Raja Rizwan (late). I have to tell you, this was one of most memorable get together since Rizwan was also my roommate in the academy and we shared some of our best moments in life, especially being next door to A/cdr Sajid Habib and Sajid Butt. I was planning to write about the good times we shared in Islamabad last month, suddenly hearing about the crash made me realize how precious and little time we have on this earth. Wish we all could slow down our pace of life and cherish the goodness life has to offer. I certainly had the best period of my life in Sargodha and that has given me the strength to take it for the rest of life. My salute to all the Sargodhians and prayers for their success.

My condolences to all the Sargodhians and their families for the loss of our dear fellows. I knew all the Sargodhians personally.

  • A message about Kohat tragedy by M. Kareem (871-R)

I share the immense grief faced by our Sargodhian community at this tragic and untimely loss. May Allah Almighty grant a place in the heavens to all these brave souls and may He grant patience and fortitude to the grief-stricken family-members.

I had the privilege of being in school at the same time as AVM Razzaq. I remember him as a brilliant student, and as a hard-working and a very principled cadet. He topped the board F-Sc exam and his total (881/1000) remained unmatched for many many years. He later went on to win the coveted sword of honour at Risalpur and subsequently did very well in his professional career.

I found some pictures of AVM Razzaq and AVM Saleem in the Pakistani press.

    Sincerely yours,

    Muhammed Kareem (ex 871-R)

  • A message about Kohat tragedy by Mushtaq Ahmed (340-A)
Dear Anas bhai & Bakhtiar bhai (and other Sargodhians)

    Salam Alaikum;

We learnt with utmost shock the very tragic death of our Air Force Chief, his lady wife and other officers and men of PAF in the Fokker plane crash. May Allah bless the departed souls.

That the 2 Air Marshals & 3 Air Commodores belonged to PAF Public School, Sargodha is indeed a tribute to our esteemed School which has been providing leadership to the PAF as well as other spheres of national institutions. In mourning the demise of such golden boys of the School, we should take pride in their contributions.

Please do convey our condolences to the bereaved family members. May Allah provide " SABAR " to the loved ones of the departed souls.

  • A message about Kohat tragedy by Kamran Khan (2027-Mirage)
I'm quite young to be called as an old Sargodhian but feel proud because of this honour. That day when we lost our worthy ACM and other officers another Sargodhian, who is a brigadier in the Pak Army, gave me a call and expressed his feelings. He was overwhelmed with the sorrow of the unrepantable loss of the chief and the same time few good souls but I will not hesitate to say that there was a feeling, a very obvious feeling of loosing someone of the family. Yes a commander has his own place, his own stature. Surely the tears in ours eyes were there for the one who lead air force but our emotions got tripled when we got to know about Sargodhians who died in the face of death. But I would really say they joined air force to jump into the face of death and got martyred in the soberly uniform of a PAKISTAN AIR FORCE, they were, are and will be always aware of risk of life and death. We salute them and pray for the departed souls also with AVM ABDUL RAZZAQ we had a quite long talk at our parents day and before at the deputy chief of staff visit's when he was looking for some Sabrites with bright open and keen eyes. We remember that like a clear screen but after all we got a little sense of affiliation developed with him, which; at its own place hammers our feelings.

  • A message by Mrs. Air Cmdr. Raja Rizwanullah Khan about her husband's demise in Kohat crash
My children and I would like to thank you for visiting our home to condole with my family upon the departure of my dear husband, Air Commodore Rizwanullah Khan Shaheed. We are honoured and touched by the kindness that you showed, especially the visiting Sargodhian from Bangladesh. My children and I take great comfort from the love and affection flowing to us from the entire country, and beyond as well. Rizwan's departure has been a devastating experience but, with Allah grace, we shall move on. Rizwan has honoured us in death as he did in life. While we desperately miss his peaceful and commanding presence in our home, we believe he is watching us at all the times and will be our guardian angle in years to come. He was acknowledged as the brightest star of the Pakistan Air Force and would have taken PAF to great heights has he lived. His legacy will now be the guiding light to help my children become good human beings and exceptional professionals, as was their father.

He wanted to go this way, a servant of his country, and I am happy for him.

To Allah we belong, and to him we shall return.

Please remember us in your prayers.

    Rgds.

PS: Kindly pass on this message to all Sargodhians since I have received so many messages that I am unable to answer them all individually. Mrs. Rizwan can be contacted at samina.Rizwan@oracle.com

  • A message about Kohat tragedy by Chris Alam (#867, 17the Entry, Rafiqui house)
I was grieved at the loss of our Sargodhian brothers who died in the Kohat air crash. I remember Razzaq Bhai, Saleem Nawaz Bhai and Rizwan who was junior to me.

Most of my memories are of Razzaq Bhai because he was a fellow Rafiquian. He was a serious student and an excellent sportsman. He was kind, considerate, and was especially good to me. He would often take me aside and give me advice and show me kindness. I remember how proud we were of him when he won the Sword of Honour in Risalpur.

Now he is gone, Saleem Bhai with his beautiful singing voice is gone, but the memories live on.

As we grow older and lose our brothers, we mourn, but we remember the old sunny days of Sargodha where we spent those golden years our lives together. We mourn for those who are no longer with us, but remember them with so much love and warmth in our hearts! We remember the laughs, the sunshine, the innocence of those bygone days, when life was so much simpler and we all had bright futures ahead. Today we are all older and grayer; some have passed on, but the love lives on. Love for our brothers and for our beloved College.

Only a Sargodhian will understand the feeling.

Today I think of all my brother Sargodhians. Wherever you are, I love you! We will always be a family!

May God Bless PAF College Sargodha. May the souls of our fallen brothers rest in peace. May their families find comfort in God our Saviour.

  • The silent demise of our school friend Ahsanul Karim Khan (350-F)

I regret to inform with heavy heart, the sad news of the silent demise of our school friend Ahsanul Karim Khan (350-F), about whose illness I informed you earlier. He was of 7th entry, entering the school on 4th September 1958 and leaving in April 1961. Inna lillahe wa inna ilahi rajiun.

He was an USA citizen living in California, and a practicing MD in a hospital, specialized in anaesthelogy. He came on a visit to Dhaka on 7th Feb 03 inspite of unfavorable health for some professional seminar in Institute of Post Graduate Medical Center, Dhaka. He was a very simple, social and kind hearted person. He visited my home with family on 14 Feb evening for dinner with few Sarghodians friends. We spent a beautiful evening recounting our school memories. But we did not know what is awaiting him after 36 hours. On the 15th Feb he spent a busy day outside Dhaka to pay homage at grave of his late parents. Before his official seminar on 18-20 Feb, he suffered a massive stroke on the evening of 16 Feb and went into coma on the same evening, from which he never recovered.

He was flown to Bangkok on 21 Feb by special Ambulance Aircraft in Bumrungrad Hospital. But he did not recover. Finally he breathed his last at 1815 BKK time on 04 Mar 03. His wife and daughter were present at his bedside. Amanullah (390) visited them for consolation. I had spoken for consolation to his wife and daughter, who is also a doctor, a few times, the last being morning of 4th March. His body is being flown to USA by Thai on 06 Mar morning for burial near his home town- Orange County. Please inform all friends to pray for salvation of the departed soul of late Dr. Ahsanul Karim Khan.

  • A Message by Ahmed Badruzzaman bhai (441-A) on demise of Ahsaul Karim bhai
(This message was passed on by Omar Huda bhai)

Thanks to Alfaz Bhai for sharing the note that sheds more light on the circumstances of Dr. Ahsanul Karim Khan's passing. Meanwhile, I hope you saw my note of March 4 to "Sargodhians" and copied to others letting you know of the tragic news I had just received that morning (California time). I have attached it, in case you did not see it.

Ahsan Bhai was buried on Saturday, March 8, at the Westminster Memorial Park, Westminster, CA, after a heartfelt funeral ceremony that started with an eulogy at the chapel at the site, followed by Namaz-e-Janaza at the Islamic Center of Orange County, nearby. Over two hundred and fifty of his friends, colleagues, and relatives attended. All who spoke recounted his simplicity, humility, and kindness. His daughter, Naureen and his son Naser spoke beautifully of their father and his love for them. His colleagues, from different ethnic backgrounds, spoke of a man who had dedicated his life to care for others. They called him a "hero," in not only caring for his patients, but also for inspiring them (his colleagues) to a higher level of caring. There wasn't a dry eye in the audience.

The Qul ceremony was held at his residence at Yorba Linda, CA. Again, a throng attended to pray for the departed soul. Please join in this prayer.

Bhabi and the children are heart-broken. Please pray for their solace and for the strength to bear this devastating loss.

    Best regards,

    Ahmed Badruzzaman (441-A)

  • Fahim Ur Rehman (13th Entery, Fury house) passed away on the night of the 2nd Ramadan

Fahim Ur Rehman passed away on the night of the 2nd Ramadan, after a massive heart attack.

Fahim was 53 years old, unmarried and living with brothers and sisters in Monrovia, California. Starting from scratch, and thorough several falls in his life, he built himself an empire of four Taco Bell restaurants and a large Furniture store in Monrovia. But his most important achievement was fulfillment of his dream of bringing his entire family (parents, brothers, sisters, in-laws) to America, house them all in huge house, providing them livelihood, and standing like a rock for all to lean on. In doing so he made great personal sacrifice and exercised extreme patience.

The family is devastated further because most of the member went on a Cruise and arrived only yesterday. They were given a message that Fahim was sick, but were not told that he had passed away. If you want to call, ask for his elder brother Jamil bhai.

    Phone number: - 626-358-6548

    Address is: - 169 North Canyon Blvd, Monrovia. C.A 91016, U.S.A

Fahim and I went to school together in Air Force School Sargodha, Pakistan, at the age of 12, and spent our boyhood together. When I came to America, he was among the first to have helped me, as he had done for a scores of people, who will remember him with gratitude. His leaves behind his brothers and sisters (his parents passed away some years ago), and a host of people and institutions who received his kindness.

Fahim’s Namaj-e-Janaza was held on Tuesday, November 12, 2002 at the Islamic Center of Orange County. He was buried at the Melrose Abbey Mortuary (on Chapman Avenue near Crystal Cathedral) at Anaheim, after the Janaza. Please say a prayer for him. May his soul rest in peace, and may Allah keep him in His Company.

  • 4th Annual Alumni Sargodhians Family Reunion, 2002

The 4th annual Sargodhians reunion was held on Saturday, August 3, 2002. The venue was Mahmud Haq's residence in New Jersey. About 15 Sargodhian families attended the event. It was an important reunion because the main topic of this reunion was to reunite Sargodhians in North America and work on supporting the Sargodhians Sprit Trust (SST) project for building a school in Tando Allah Yar. Tando Allah Yar is a rural area, a few miles from Hyderabad, Sind.
This project includes a top class school based on the Sargodha model, a hospital, an inn for travelers and a masjid. SST is going full swing to raise funds for building the school. SST board Officers recently had a meeting with the Governor of Sind, who has promised Rs. 50 million for the school. These funds have been pledged by the Governor over a period of time and is a morale booster for the establishment of the SST School. We request all the members of the Sargodhians Association from North America to help the noble efforts of SST and Rashidabad Memorial Trust.
Here is the detail of the meeting proceedings:
After a social get-together and meeting old friends, Bakhtiar bhai, who had come from Canada, despite his bad health and family issues, addressed the meeting. He explained what is means to him to be here among the Sargodhians. He called Sargodhians his second family and offered all his energy to work on Sargodhians projects. He also thanked Mr. & Mrs. Mahmud Haq (72nd GD) for repeatedly hosting the meeting at their residence.
After Bakhtiar bhai, Syed Asghar (537F) took the stand. He spoke about his visit to Sargodha school. (You can read more about this visit on the Sargodhians web site). He also spoke about the SST project and urged all Sargodhians to support this project. He explained that SST needs about $2.5 Millions for this project. About $1 Million has been donated by the Governor of Sind. The SST still needs to raise about $1.5 Millions. The SST is counting on old Sargodhians to help them achieve this target. We are planning to arrange fundraisings in New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto and other cities for this cause. Asghar further said, we need to call upon Sargodhians to help us arranging these fundraisings. He also suggested designating Sargodhians in their local area to work on spreading this word around to other Pakistani and Bangladeshi (Sargodhians and non-Sargodhians) community to participate for this cause. Asghar is also trying very hard to explain to SST Board officers to prepare for this event by having an excellent (MS Power Point) presentation with details and statistics for the fundraisings.
Asghar explained that he is trying to convince SST that Mr. Shabir, Anas bhai and Col. (Retd.) Mazhar from SST Pakistan should attend the fundraising. After accomplishing this project, the SST also plans to build another school on the same model in Bangladesh.
The SST is planning for the Golden Jubilee ceremony (50th Anniversary) of PAF School, Sargodha in Sargodha, Pakistan in February 2003. Asghar urged Sargodhians to attend this historic event.
After Asghar, It was Musharraf Hussain (549A) who talked about his visit to Pakistan and Sargodha. He also elaborated on the SST project. He was totally convinced that it is a great project. All Sargodhians should support it. He expressed that it as time to pay back to the school which means so much to us and there is not a better way to pay back than help building an other school. He also insisted of having a database for Sargodhians with as much information as possible.
After Musharraf, it was Sail-ul-Islam who expressed his feelings about Sargodha. He told us that now, in Dhaka as well, the Sargodhians are becoming active. This really shows the feels of old Sargodhians for Sargodha school. He insisted on making this organization more active and more collaborating between the other chapters; such as, Islamabad and Dhaka.
Saadullah bahi has been a regular attendee of the Sargodhians meeting not only in New Jersey, he has also attended the meeting in London and Dubai. He wants Sargodhians to rise above Pakistani and Bangladeshi mindset and think like a Sargodhians and work for a good cause, as the school taught us, many years ago. He also mentioned that we might be able to get a discount from PIA if we plan the trip for Sargodha Golden Jubilee ceremony and form a group. If you are interested, please let us know.
After the speeches, we had a round table discussion, where we expressed our feelings and frustration about the lack of participation from other Sargodhians. We discussed how could we get the enthusiasm back that we had four years ago. We decided that we would work more aggressively to get the Sargodhians and their interest back in the organization. We will look for creating a formal structure of the organization and explore the possibility of registering ourselves a "not for profit" organization in the USA.
We decided to make a steering committee that will look in to creating a structure and get more Sargodhians involved. The following Sargodhians volunteered to be part of this steering committee:
    1.. Sadullah
    2.. Jabbar Ahmed
    3.. Bakhtiar Mirza
    4.. Muazzam Khan
    5.. Musharraf Hussain
    6.. Syed Asghar
    7.. Suif-ul-Islam
    8.. K.B. Meboob
If you would like to be a member of the steering committee, please send us an email.
It was also discussed that Bakhtiar will send a copy of the exiting constitution of Old Boys Sargodhians Association, Islamabad to Musharraf and he will start working on the possibility of forming a not for profit organization.

  • Old Sargodhians visited Sargodha

This report is on behalf of Anis, Musharraf and his wife Mahmooda, Jabbar and myself. Although I am writing this report, yet I am 100 % sure that the feelings are shared equally among all of us. We cannot find words to express our thanks to the above addressees, who went beyond their limits to arrange our visit, which was so successful. We felt so at home wherever we went. We could never imagine that we will get such a VIP treatment. We could see the fellow-feelings originating from the very bottom of their hearts. There are so many events, which will keep reminding us day in and day out but some of them must be noted here because they extra-ordinary.

On arrival at karachi, Shabbir Bhai, Idrees Bhai and Parvez Jang Bahadur (who had to fly PIA after one hour of our arrival) had already e boosted our morale right from the scratch. Thanks to all of them.

Shabbir Bhai and his family took so much of trouble to host us in their house. They really took good care of us. We disturbed their daily life and the family never showed any signs of fatigue or being fed up of us. What a great family. We should give Shabbir Bhai a school number to recognize his services to Sargodhians. The arrangement to take us to the Tando Allah Yar Project was meticulously planned. We were really moved to see young girl volunteers cooking food for the school kids in 110 degrees temperature. The project was well explained and seemed to be on the right track. The spirit of volunteerism struck us the most. The local villagers participation and the enthusiasm displayed by all who are involved calls for international help. If Shabbir Bhai ever plans to come to the U.S., we will assist him in reaching out to the community. He deserves help. Thanks to Shabbir Bhai, Idrees Bhai, Farooq Anwar bhai, Hadi Rizvi, Nasir's daughter and her husband and others who accompanied us.

The reception in the evening at the Drigh Road PAF Officers Club was wonderful. We met so many Sargodhian friends. Thanks to Mazharul Karim Bhai, Akbar Panni Bhai, Idrees Bhai and Farooqi Bhai (collecting money) and those Sargodhians who gave us free T-shirts. Thanks to Hadi Rizvi for giving us so much of his personal time and also thanks to Hassan Raza Qizilbash for explaining the activities of the Karachi Chapter.

The next day reception for the 10th and 11th entries at the PAF Museum again was a good one where we met some of our old class mates, who had missed the earlier reception. Thanks to Mehdi Raza for arranging the dinner.

At Islamabad airport, Anas bhai, Chowdhry Afzal, Naveed, and Laeeq received us warmly. Naveed's help in providing the VIP lounge was a good gesture on his part. Col Nazar's house provided us superb facilities, which were better than Intercon or Hilton. Big size rooms with attached baths and dining facilities were all five star quality. The provision of an air-conditioned van for travel made our travel so comfortable. The driver was very courteous all the time sirring us. Special thanks to Anas Bhai, Col Nazar Bhai, Naveed and Chowdhry Afzal (who gave us company throughout). The dinner reception at Islamabad was exhilarating. Farooq Feroz Bhai's attendance made us feel very important. We enjoyed meeting the seniors and our entry mates. Thanks to all who arranged this reception.

Sargodha's visit was a memorable visit. Qadir Sarghana, the principal was extremely helpful. The teachers also mingled with us as if we were their past students although they were all new. Mrs. Mahmooda enjoyed time with the lady teachers. We were given a good tour. We were touched by the old school records, which were still maintained by the staff. Musharraf almost had tears in his eyes to see his dead father's letter in his personal folder.

The lunch with the school kids was quite an experience. Each one of us sat with our old house boys. The prayers at the beginning and at the end reminded us of our old days. In the afternoon, the inter-house basketball competition was the most exciting event. Jabbar, being the senior most among us, inaugurated the tournament. Tempest House beat Fury because they were a better team but Furians fought back with the spirirt"They Live Who Dare". Musharraf and Anis were bucking up the Attackerites but they lost. Old Boys beat the new boys because the referee was on our side. Thanks to the Principal, the staff, the lady teachers and the school kids, who were equally excited to meet us and thanks for beautiful gifts we received.

The trip to Kamra was an exciting one. Parvez Nawaz had sent two jeeps, which escorted us from the entrance gates to his office and treated us to a sumptuous lunch. It was so nice of him to give us some time because we know he was extremely busy. Thanks to Parvez.

Risalpur opened its heart to us. Musharraf was very excited to see his old living quarters and where he did extra drills and also gave punishment to others when he was senior. We also watched a rehearsal parade of cadets. The staff was very cooperative. Each of us was given a souvenir. The dinner was fabulous. Thanks to the commandant and his staff.

Next day when we were back at Karachi, Shahab bhai treated us to the cool and airy coastal evening at Marina Terminal with a nice dinner and a boat sail. What a nice evening. Thanks to Shahab Bhai.

On our arrival at Dhaka airport, Amin received us. He and Alfaz Bhai had arranged a dinner reception at the BAF Golf Club, which is very beautiful. There were at least 40 people including the spouses. The present Air-Chief Fakhrul Azaam presented bouquet of flowers to the visiting Sargodhians. Dr. Kamal Siddiqui, Principal Secretary to the P.M. graced the occasion with his speech. General Amjad (Retd) was also present. We then heard from Saiful Azam Bhai about his war heroism, which was very thrilling. Thanks to all who participated in the reception and who made it possible (Alfaz bhai and Amin)

Next day we visited the village (Tangael) where Musharrf's father is buried. We saw the whole project which his father has built for the villagers. We then went on to Serajgang, Jabbar's home, where we offered prayers at his parents' graves. He provided us with excellent food (kabab shabab - plenty of it). We then drove to meet Warsi Bhai in Pabna. Meeting him was a very emotional moment for us. He is completely disabled but his fighting spirit is amazing. He is a living example of what a Sargodhian should be. Lying in a bed for 24 hours and needing help himself all the time, he raises funds for needy people. Inshallah we will assist him in this struggle.

Finally the trip was coming to a sad departure when Amin brought us to the Dhaka airport and treated us to snacks at the VIP lounge. He made sure that BD Sargodhians are not left behind in giving us the VIP treatment. Thanks Amin. Jabbar's brother Shapan gave us good company. He is such a gentleman. Thanks Shapan.

After landing at Dubai, we were picked up by Qadeer Mansoor, who took us to his house where we had tea and snacks. He then drove to Sikandar Shah, who lives in Sharja. We had dinner with his family. Thanks Qadeer and Sikandar.

How can we repay all the kindness showered on us by fellow Sargodhians?

The least we can do is participate financially in the projects. We will inshallah help all the projects whatever we can come up with.

Thanks to all the Sargodhians who made our trip possible and purposeful.

Finally thanks to Musharraf for germinating the idea of this trip. Thanks to Jabbar, Anis and Mrs. Musharraf for joining us and taking the time to visit our al-ma ma-ter. Now Mrs. Musharraf would appreciate why Musharraf always dreams about Sargodha and Risalpur. They say "Seeing is Believing". How true is this.

Thanks to my dear wife Zahra for allowing me to go without her because without her consent, I could not have made this wonderful trip.

Ashfaq, you don't know what you have missed. May be next time you will join us from England. Thanks for meeting us at Heathrow.

Please forgive me if I have forgotten some names, who need to be thanked. It is the fault of my memory.

Here is more details by Abid Khawaja

It was extremely shocking for all of us, we had never thought such a thing happening to us and still it is hard to believe, that a healthy and fit person like Sohail can leave us so soon.

I am Abid Hussain Khawaja of 67th GD(P). Now a days I am in Amman Jordan. Sohail was also in Jordan with us. Seven of us planned to perform Hajj during this year. After a hectic struggle with Saudi Embassy, we managed to get the Hajj visa for traveling in our private cars. Five traveled with their families. Except me, rest even took along their children, ranging from age 3 to 12. Sohail did not take his family as his daughter is still less than one year. As I was only traveling with my wife there fore asked Sohail and Haider ( the two bachelors) to travel with me, to which they agreed. We had made a small group of our own, traveled together and stayed in hotels and tents together. We reached Makkah on 7th Zilhajj and were allotted Maktab No 40.

We all performed our Hajj “Arkaans” according to the best of our abilities and were quite satisfied. On 12th Zilhajj, we all performed our last “Rukan”, Tawaf al wida. Sohail was so motivated that he performed one extra Tawaf for his father. Next day, we moved to the parking area to get our cars. Two cars had developed electric problems and because of repair our departure was delayed till after noon, (Allah had planned it this way). We decided to move after Asar prayer and announced the same to all and started preparing for move. Sohail, who was resting in the rest area along with the families (supposedly tired because of one extra Tawaf last night) got up and started walking to the bathroom. After walking ten yards, suddenly her fell down and collapsed. I heard the shouts in the toilet and rushed to the scene. Some rushed for the ambulance. Meanwhile after aprox one minute, Sohail came back to his senses and behaved absolutely normal. I personally asked him about any pain in the chest or headache or any such history. He denied and insisted on moving to Madina and consult the doctor over there. On the contrary, we decided to take him to the closest hospital for check up. After visiting the toilet, Sohail along with three of us started moving to the car, parked close by. Short of reaching the car, he again collapsed and this time it was much more severe. We rushed him to the hospital in the same condition. it took us aprox three minutes to reach the closest hospital. En route he was facing problem in breathing. I tried artificial breathing, but did not ease the problem. Once we reached the hospital. He was still breathing but with lot of difficulty.

Luckily the hospital (Mohd. S. Bashraheel Hospital) was good and with in no time 4-5 doctors reached to attend him. They announced his death after approx half an hour. The family later decided to burry him in Makkah, and his wife requested to see his face before the burial, for which we all had to stay in Jeddah for five extra days. Finally his wife managed to get the visa. Namaz-a-Jinaza was offered on 12th March in Haram Sharief after namaz-al-Asar.

Alhamd-du-Lillah, this is the best way a muslim can dream for.

We received the family at Jeddah air port and seen them off for Karachi the next day. Thanks to Pak Embassy for making the necessary arrangements and to my group members who stayed along with me through out. The family is in Karachi and has decided to settle there. The address and Tel no is given below:

    c/o Mr Waleed Khalid
    F-2, 8/14 Maymar Square,
    Gulshan-a-Iqbal, Karachi
    Tel: 0092-21-4947751

He has three daughters, twins are approx 13 and the youngest is less than one year. The doctors diagnosed low blood pressure and heart failure due Hajj fatigue. His wife later found resemblance with his father's death symptoms (his father died 3 months ago and he went to Pakistan for that). Some problem related to the brain, where some blood clot entered the brain and switched off the brain.

May Allah bless his soul and give peace to the family.

"I would also thank the personal efforts put in by our Chief of the Naval Staff, who was continuously in touch with our embassy and consulate, which really moved the things. I am definite, that with out his personal involvement, we would have not been able to manage the things this way. I also thank Gp Capt Hifazat for arranging the visa for the family. Sohail's real uncle and some other family members (who had come for Hajj) also joined the funeral."

    Regards.

  • Sargodhians get-together, New Jersey

As some of you know, Gen. G.M.Malik (57 A) and A.Basit Haqqani (110 S) were visiting New Jersey in September 2000. Taking the opportunity of their visit, we held a small get-together at Mahmud-ul-Haq's residence at 10 Beekman Road, Franklin Park, New Jersey 08823 on September 20, 2000.

The following people attended the gathering:

Gen. G. M. Malik, Basit Haqqani, Mazhar Amin, Sadullah, Mir Saiful-Islam, K. B. Mehboob, Amir Saleem, Aizaz Ahmed, Zaheer Sherazi, Muazzam Khan, Mahmud Haq, Rehan and Mr. Aslam Javaid (Math Teacher).

It was a fun gathering. Old friends exchanged views and stories. After the introductions, we also exchanged some ideas on the future of the Sargodhians Association. Everyone stressed on the fact that we should have these gathering at least once a year and make them more productive. We need more active participation from all Sargodhians. And we need your suggestion and idea to keep this going.

More than any thing else, we need volunteers from different geographical regions who can help us spread the word around and get a response back about the number of attendees.

At the end of the meeting Gen. Malik discussed his Project Al Mustafa, which he has started with the help of some good friends. Al Mustafa is a small hospital in Chaklala, Rawalpindi, which is treating poor people in the area, free of cost. Al Mustafa needs the support and attention by all good-hearted people, specially, Sargodhians. If you would like to support, please send us an e-mail and we will get you in touch with Gen. Malik.

All Sargodhians are requested to send their suggestion for the next get-together.
